Poetry Challenge: #18: Time Lapse
Opening scene.
Journey on foot.
A series of shots.
Verdi’s Messa da Requiem fades in,
overlapping for a brief moment with a ghost image.
The scene freezes;
Opening credits roll and scene fades to black.
The Requiem continues an audible transition to the second scene.
Tell Me Your Life Story
It’s a collage of freeze frames. Inter-titles in the style of 1970s album covers. Soundbites from old newsreel, classic hip hop flyers, advertisements for running shoes. Re-runs of the Batman and Robin TV series with Adam somebody intercut with Bruce Lee’s kung-fu series. Repeated phrases cut together with random radio loops and samples. Jazz, ambient, call and response. Talking out loud to myself. The Breaks. Dual turntables scratching retrograde and progressive mimicking the elliptical path of planets. The nomad commentaries. Sing yourself into existence. Aboriginal songlines. Walkabout books. As above, so below. Automatic writing.
