Lady Serenity

When Lady Serenity
saw me, she swerved.

Her detour a reminder not to dwell on anxiety.

I want to absorb the tempo of my female hero.

Go with her on a journey. We’ll decide.

Fill a syrup-colored packing case with maps loosely packed.

Plan our getaway on the backs of envelopes.  Take me with you.

“Live and love as if there’s no tomorrow.” I wish she’d said to me.

“Die to tomorrow.”

Add as a P.S.

  1. Fabulous! Two points… One: Have you read it out loud? The line ‘Fill a syrup-colored packing case with maps loosely packed’ sounds super, however you say it. I found it to be sibiliant and sexy when whispering or reading slow and worldly/wise when saying the line louder. I loved how the poem had a different feel to it depending on how you read it each time (Ace!). Two: ‘Plan our gettaway on the backs of envelopes. Take me with you’ . Awesome (I have been told I can still get away with saying ‘cool’ at my age, though not by my children, is there youth enough in me yet to deliver ‘awesome’ genuinely?) line, loved it! There is a passion, a wanderlust, something achingly beautiful about this line that works so very well. This really got me thinking and I thoroughly enjoyed it, Michele, thank you!

    1. Mr K, I am bowled over by your insight and appreciation. Thank you with all my heart for reading my words and sharing your thoughts here. Wow, I appreciate you 🙂 Did I read this poem aloud? That’s a very good question. I heard the words in my head but have yet to speak the words aloud. Now you’ve suggested reading the text quietly (and in a louder voice) I’m excited to try out your experiment. And I’m so glad you thought some of the poem “sexy”. I aim to please… “Hugs” and another big thank you, my dear friend Baldy 🙂

      1. I’ve sought her my whole adult life, really. But it wasn’t until last year when I took in my mother to care for her during her last chapter, did Lady Serenity come and visit with me for an extended time. She was with me everyday as I cared for my mother. I was lucky enough to have my mother with me at home when her spirit finally did leave her body. It was one of the most difficult yet miraculous moments of my life. Much has happened since then… I sometimes wonder if Lady Serenity is watching me from around the corner! Close, but slightly out of my sight!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your moving experiences of Lady Serenity. I am deeply touched by what you describe as difficult yet miraculous moments when your mother passed and her spirit left her body. It’s wonderful to know that you were lucky enough to have your mother at home as she went through her transition. When I wrote this poem tonight I was looking for a way to express my gratitude for the ups and downs of recent months and those who are dear to me who’ve stood by me… and continue to do so. As you do, I sometimes wonder if Lady Serenity is watching me from around the corner. Peace and many blessings to you. Michele

  2. I like it. The experience I have had recently with the passing of my brother in law. Has set me thinking about life and serenity. There is a lot to life and we need to grab every chance we can at it…Love your poem..Not much time lately to work on my blog, hopefully now I can get a chance.

  3. I read your comment with great interest, especially in light of the comment made by Von. My condolences to you and I hope in some way that Lady Serenity can assist with the healing process. I, for one, enjoy every visit I make to your blog, and maybe now you will have the time to write again. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences here. I am deeply touched. Many blessings to you. Michele

      1. And I thank you as well. If all goes well, I have followed you and shall pass by in the morning. It is nice to have met…I agree.

  4. Not a wasted word or space here, the thing flows and hops, filled with energy and swing … would love to pick out something outstanding as an example …but, you know what ?
    it is all outstanding!

  5. Wow.

    [Tearing up.]

    [Long Silence.]

Okay…I’m a take-you-through-the -experiencer too, so you had to know the above as it happened. I wish………………..I had read this before….I started tearing down the relationships I had to have by all means necessary. This would have been my note to my younger injuriously ardent self. *Phew.* Wow.

    “Die tomorrow.”

    Yeah.

Wish I had absorbed her tempo – in retrospect – too. 😦

    *****************************This is beyond….a poem.****************

    (Thank-you.)

  6. LIVE Tomorrow!!

    You astound me… deep, dark… light, airy… beautiful… creative.

    SPECIAL!!

No dying please… you have too much to offer this planet!

    Live on…

  7. Hello! I am (Ms) Hunter L. Blue from Melancholy Bluez! I am not sure if I ever thanked you for following my blog, my apologies. And, thank you for taking time to leave me a note. I adore my readers and I am always pleased when people like/enjoy/care enough about my designs and writing to take the time to thank me or comment. . I am also following your blog now.

I LOVE THIS POST! My recovery “motto”, “mantra” (insert applicable term here) is “vivere per morire un altro giorno” – translated into English “live to die another day”. As a slowly-recovering survivor, it is actually my goal and my reason for recovery & actually living (as opposed to “existing”). I also love your blog title “Lady Serenity” – I named my home “SERENITY”. I will visit here often, I really enjoy your posts.

I have not posted on my site a lot lately, but I have so many new projects in various stages: my favourite movies, books & music; my artistic original designs; poetry & other pieces – AND I’m going to be starting another section “Bluez BadLandz” (working title, it could change if I think of something I like better) – I’m really excited about it & still working on the “launch” of the new section.
Again, thank you so much for your positive feedback & I look forward to your future posts! Ciao for now!

    Love & Hugs,
    Hunter

    1. Ooops! Forgot to ask you the question I intended to ask when I wrote the comment: May I have your permission to re-blog this – I will credit you, of course, and provide a link back to your blog.

    2. Wow, (Ms) Hunter L. Blue, so lovely to meet you here. It’s my pleasure to follow your blog. You’re an amazing writer. Thank you for your kind words about Lady Serenity and it’s magical to discover your motto and the name of your house. It’s almost as if I was thinking about you when this poem appeared out of the blue 🙂 Sending you much love and strength to assist you on your journey. “Vivere per morire un altro giorno.” Let’s keep in touch. Peace and blessings, Michele

  8. Lady Serenity awaits within the realm of influences. Which do we choose? Are we aware of the influences of a given moment? We are completely equal in our freedom to choose how we are influenced.

  9. Thank you so much for this. I’m going on a journey to Cameroon soon to locate my physical roots, but I know it’s really an internal journey. Your poem sums up this kind of journey so well.

  10. Hello, Michele! It’s been awhile, but I finally got the chance to reblog this today and visit your site. I love your work, you are a beautiful & very talented soul! 😇
    ~Luv, Hunter~
